Barnard's Grenn CC - The Official Opening
A new cricket training nets facility has been official opening at Barnard’s Green Cricket Club in Malvern. The new £40,000 facility has been co-funded by the English and Wales Cricket Board and local sports charity The Joanna Brown Trust. Former Barnard’s Green member and ex-Worcestershire and England batsmen Tim Curtis official opened the nets on Friday 6thMay 2011.
The installation of the new facility means that over 250 youth members and 120 adult members will have access to one of the best training facilities in the county. Tim Curtis said “I am delighted to come back to Barnard’s Green to open their new net facility. The club has gone from strength to strength since I first played here 40 years ago. That the facility has been funded by a local charity such as The Joanna Brown Trust makes this an even more special event.”
Richard Brown, founder of The Joanna Brown Trust said “We are delighted to be supporting a great club like Barnard’s Green CC. The aim of The Joanna Brown Trust is to provide people with an opportunity to experience sport and excel in it. This project underlines our commitment to helping people of all ages not just participate in sport but go on and be the best they can. Jo was a winner, she always strived to be the best she could and we are confident that a facility such as this will install that mentality in members here at Barnard’s Green”.
Barnard’s Green Club Chairman Andy Lamb added “The installation of the new non-turf three lane cricket nets facility at our main ground at North End Lane has had a significant effect on the development of players at the club. This has meant that we are now able to utilise all our coaches to the full and that there is enough flexibility through our programmes to enable a complete spectrum of coaching to take place simultaneously. The ability to give one to one sessions on technique has proved particularly beneficial. To be able to do this on top class reliable surfaces can only enhance confidence in both young and established cricketers.
We are highly indebted to The Joanna Brown Trust in getting this project to completion. The Joanna Brown Trust can be justifiably proud of its role and of the enduring legacy that this project will play in maintaining participation in sport for young people locally."
